Jehoram Reigns in Judah(A)
21 And (B)Jehoshaphat [a]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Jehoram his son reigned in his place. 2 He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azaryahu, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. 3 Their father gave them great gifts of silver and gold and precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.
4 Now when Jehoram [b]was established over the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself and killed all his brothers with the sword, and also others of the princes of Israel.
5 (C)Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for he had the daughter of (D)Ahab as a wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 7 Yet the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the (E)covenant that He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and to his (F)sons forever.
8 (G)In his days Edom revolted against Judah’s authority, and made a king over themselves. 9 So Jehoram went out with his officers, and all his chariots with him. And he rose by night and attacked the Edomites who had surrounded him and the captains of the chariots. 10 Thus Edom has been in revolt against Judah’s authority to this day. At that time Libnah revolted against his rule, because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers. 11 Moreover he made [c]high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to (H)commit harlotry, and led Judah astray.
12 And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying,
Thus says the Lord God of your father David:
Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13 but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have (I)made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to (J)play the harlot like the (K)harlotry of the house of Ahab, and also have (L)killed your brothers, those of your father’s household, who were better than yourself, 14 behold, the Lord will strike your people with a serious affliction—your children, your wives, and all your possessions; 15 and you will become very sick with a (M)disease of your intestines, until your intestines come out by reason of the sickness, day by day.
16 Moreover the (N)Lord (O)stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and the (P)Arabians who were near the Ethiopians. 17 And they came up into Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions that were found in the king’s house, and also (Q)his sons and his wives, so that there was not a son left to him except [d]Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
18 After all this the Lord struck him (R)in his intestines with an incurable disease. 19 Then it happened in the course of time, after the end of two years, that his intestines came out because of his sickness; so he died in severe pain. And his people made no [e]burning for him, like (S)the burning for his fathers.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king. He reigned in Jerusalem eight years and, to no one’s sorrow, departed. However they buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

21 Y DURMIO Josaphat con sus padres, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar Joram su hijo.
2 Este tuvo hermanos, hijos de Josaphat, á Azarías, Jehiel, Zachârías, Azarías, Michâel, y Sephatías. Todos estos fueron hijos de Josaphat rey de Israel.
3 Y su padre les había dado muchos dones de oro y de plata, y cosas preciosas, y ciudades fuertes en Judá; mas había dado el reino á Joram, porque él era el primogénito.
4 Fué pues elevado Joram al reino de su padre; y luego que se hizo fuerte, mató á cuchillo á todos sus hermanos, y asimismo algunos de los príncipes de Israel.
5 Cuando comenzó á reinar era de treinta y dos años, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalem.
6 Y anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel, como hizo la casa de Achâb; porque tenía por mujer la hija de Achâb, é hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová.
7 Mas Jehová no quiso destruir la casa de David, á causa de la alianza que con David había hecho, y porque le había dicho que le daría lámpara á él y á sus hijos perpetuamente.
8 En los días de éste se rebeló la Idumea, para no estar bajo el poder de Judá, y pusieron rey sobre sí.
9 Entonces pasó Joram con sus príncipes, y consigo todos sus carros; y levantóse de noche, é hirió á los Idumeos que le habían cercado, y á todos los comandantes de sus carros.
10 Con todo eso Edom quedó rebelado, sin estar bajo la mano de Judá hasta hoy. También se rebeló en el mismo tiempo Libna para no estar bajo su mano; por cuanto él había dejado á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
11 Demás de esto hizo altos en los montes de Judá, é hizo que los moradores de Jerusalem fornicasen, y á ello impelió á Judá.
12 Y viniéronle letras del profeta Elías, que decían: Jehová, el Dios de David tu padre, ha dicho así: Por cuanto no has andado en los caminos de Josaphat tu padre, ni en los caminos de Asa, rey de Judá,
13 Antes has andado en el camino de los reyes de Israel, y has hecho que fornicase Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalem, como fornicó la casa de Achâb; y además has muerto á tus hermanos, á la familia de tu padre, los cuales eran mejores que tú:
14 He aquí Jehová herirá tu pueblo de una grande plaga, y á tus hijos y á tus mujeres, y á toda tu hacienda;
15 Y á ti con muchas enfermedades, con enfermedad de tus entrañas, hasta que las entrañas se te salgan á causa de la enfermedad de cada día.
16 Entonces despertó Jehová contra Joram el espíritu de los Filisteos, y de los Arabes que estaban junto á los Etiopes;
17 Y subieron contra Judá, é invadieron la tierra, y tomaron toda la hacienda que hallaron en la casa del rey, y á sus hijos, y á sus mujeres; que no le quedó hijo, sino Joachâz el menor de sus hijos.
18 Después de todo esto Jehová lo hirió en las entrañas de una enfermedad incurable.
19 Y aconteció que, pasando un día tras otro, al fin, al cabo de dos años, las entrañas se le salieron con la enfermedad, muriendo así de enfermedad muy penosa. Y no le hizo quema su pueblo, como las había hecho á sus padres.
20 Cuando comenzó á reinar era de treinta y dos años, y reinó en Jerusalem ocho años; y fuése sin ser deseado. Y sepultáronlo en la ciudad de David, mas no en los sepulcros de los reyes.

Regno di Ioram
21 Giòsafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con loro nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioram.
2 I suoi fratelli, figli di Giòsafat, erano Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia; tutti costoro erano figli di Giòsafat re di Israele. 3 Il padre aveva dato loro ricchi doni: argento, oro e oggetti preziosi insieme con fortezze in Giuda; il regno però l'aveva assegnato a Ioram, perché era il primogenito.
4 Ioram prese in possesso il regno di suo padre e quando si fu rafforzato, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e, con loro, anche alcuni ufficiali di Israele. 5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni. 6 Seguì la strada dei re di Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab, perché sua moglie era figlia di Acab. Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, 7 ma il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide a causa dell'alleanza che aveva conclusa con Davide e della promessa fattagli di lasciargli sempre una lampada, per lui e per i suoi figli.
8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò a Giuda e si elesse un re. 9 Ioram con i suoi ufficiali e con tutti i carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Idumei che l'avevano accerchiato, insieme con gli ufficiali dei suoi carri. 10 Ma Edom, ribellatosi a Giuda, ancora oggi è indipendente. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri. 11 Egli inoltre eresse alture nelle città di Giuda, spinse alla idolatria gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e fece traviare Giuda.
12 Gli giunse da parte del profeta Elia uno scritto che diceva: «Dice il Signore, Dio di Davide tuo padre: Perché non hai seguito la condotta di Giòsafat tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa re di Giuda, 13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re di Israele, hai spinto alla idolatria Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, e inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, cioè la famiglia di tuo padre, uomini migliori di te, 14 ecco, il Signore farà cadere un grave disastro sul tuo popolo, sui tuoi figli, sulle tue mogli e su tutti i tuoi beni. 15 Tu soffrirai gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che per essa le tue viscere ti usciranno nel giro di due anni».
16 Il Signore risvegliò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano al fianco degli Etiopi. 17 Costoro attaccarono Giuda, vi penetrarono e razziarono tutti i beni della reggia, asportando anche i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase nessun figlio, se non Ioacaz il più piccolo. 18 Dopo tutto questo, il Signore lo colpì con una malattia intestinale inguaribile. 19 Andò avanti per più di un anno; verso la fine del secondo anno, gli uscirono le viscere per la gravità della malattia e così morì fra dolori atroci. E per lui il popolo non bruciò aromi, come si erano bruciati per i suoi padri.
20 Quando divenne re, egli aveva trentadue anni; regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianti; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
