13 But you have followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did.(A) You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your own family, men who were better(B) than you. 14 So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. 15 You yourself will be very ill with a lingering disease(C) of the bowels, until the disease causes your bowels to come out.’”

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales;(A) rather, train yourself to be godly.(B) For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things,(C) holding promise for both the present life(D) and the life to come.(E) This is a trustworthy saying(F) that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God,(G) who is the Savior of all people,(H) and especially of those who believe.

11 Command and teach these things.(I) 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you(J) because you are young, but set an example(K) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith(L) and in purity. 13 Until I come,(M) devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture,(N) to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy(O) when the body of elders(P) laid their hands on you.(Q)

15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save(R) both yourself and your hearers.
