Solomon Will Build a Temple and a Palace

2 [a](A)Now Solomon [b]decided to build a house for the name of the Lord, and a [c]royal palace for himself. 2 [d]So (B)Solomon [e]assigned seventy thousand men to carry loads, eighty thousand men to quarry stone in the mountains, and 3,600 to supervise them.

3 (C)Then Solomon sent word to [f]Huram the king of Tyre, saying, “(D)As you dealt with my father David and sent him cedars to build him a house to live in, do it for me. 4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, dedicating it to Him, (E)to burn fragrant incense before Him and to set out (F)the showbread continually, and to offer (G)burnt offerings morning and evening, (H)on Sabbaths, on new moons, and on the appointed feasts of the Lord our God. This is to be done in Israel forever. 5 The house which I am about to build will be great, for our God is (I)greater than all the gods. 6 But (J)who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain Him? And who am I, that I should build a house for Him, except to [g]burn incense before Him? 7 Now (K)send me a skilled man to work in gold, silver, brass, iron, and in purple, crimson, and violet fabrics, one who knows how to make engravings, to work with the skilled workers [h](L)whom I have in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided. 8 (M)Send me also cedar, juniper, and algum timber from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber of Lebanon; and indeed (N)my servants will work with your servants, 9 to prepare timber in abundance for me, for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful. 10 Now behold, (O)I will give your servants, the woodsmen who cut the timber, [i]twenty thousand kors of crushed wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, [j]twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.”

Huram to Assist

11 Then Huram, king of Tyre, [k]answered in a letter sent to Solomon: “(P)Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them.” 12 Then Huram [l]continued, “Blessed be (Q)the Lord, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given King David a wise son, [m]endowed with discretion and understanding, (R)who will build a house for the Lord and a [n]royal palace for himself.

13 “Now then, I am sending Huram-abi, a skilled man, [o]endowed with understanding, 14 (S)the son of a [p]Danite woman and [q]a Tyrian father, who knows how to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, and in purple, violet, linen, and crimson fabrics, and who knows how to make all kinds of engravings and to [r]execute any design which is assigned to him, to work with your skilled workers and with [s]those of my lord, your father David. 15 Now then, let my lord send his servants wheat and barley, oil and wine, of (T)which he has spoken. 16 (U)We will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon and bring it to you as rafts by sea to Joppa, so that you may carry it up to Jerusalem.”

17 Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, (V)following the [t]census which his father David had [u]taken; and 153,600 were found. 18 (W)He appointed seventy thousand of them to carry loads and eighty thousand to quarry stones in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors to make the people work.

Pacto de Salomón con Hiram(A)

2 Determinó, pues, Salomón edificar Casa al nombre de Jehová, y casa para su reino. 2 Y designó Salomón setenta mil cargadores, ochenta mil canteros y tres mil seiscientos capataces que los vigilaran.

3 Después envió Salomón a decir a Hiram, rey de Tiro: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole cedros para que se construyera una casa en que habitar. 4 Mira, yo tengo que edificar una Casa al nombre de Jehová, mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar incienso aromático delante de él, para la colocación continua de los panes de la proposición, para los holocaustos de la mañana y la tarde, los sábados, nuevas lunas, y festividades de Jehová, nuestro Dios; lo cual ha de ser perpetuo en Israel. 5 Y la Casa que tengo que edificar ha de ser grande, porque el Dios nuestro es grande sobre todos los dioses. 6 Pero ¿quién será capaz de edificarle Casa, siendo que los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerlo? ¿Quién, pues, soy yo, para que le edifique Casa, aunque sólo sea para quemar incienso delante de él? 7 Envíame, pues, ahora un hombre hábil que sepa trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, en púrpura, en grana y en azul, y que sepa esculpir con los maestros que están conmigo en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales contrató mi padre. 8 Envíame también madera del Líbano: cedro, ciprés y sándalo; porque yo sé que tus siervos saben cortar madera en el Líbano. Mis siervos irán con los tuyos 9 para que me preparen mucha madera, porque la Casa que tengo que edificar ha de ser grande y portentosa. 10 Para tus siervos, los que trabajen cortando la madera, daré veinte mil coros de trigo en grano, veinte mil coros de cebada, veinte mil batos de vino y veinte mil batos de aceite.»

11 Entonces Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió a Salomón: «Porque Jehová amó a su pueblo, te ha puesto por rey sobre ellos.» 12 Hiram también decía: «Bendito sea Jehová, el Dios de Israel, que hizo los cielos y la tierra, y que dio al rey David un hijo sabio, entendido, cuerdo y prudente, que va a edificar una casa a Jehová y una casa para su reino. 13 Yo, pues, te he enviado un hombre hábil y entendido, Hiram-abi, 14 hijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan, aunque su padre era de Tiro, el cual sabe trabajar en oro, plata, bronce y hierro, en piedra y en madera, en púrpura y en azul, en lino y en carmesí; asimismo sabe esculpir toda clase de figuras y sacar toda forma de diseño que se le pida, junto a tus hombres peritos y a los de mi señor David, tu padre. 15 Ahora, pues, envíe mi señor a sus siervos el trigo y la cebada, el aceite y el vino de que ha hablado; 16 y nosotros cortaremos en el Líbano la madera que necesites, y te la llevaremos en balsas por el mar hasta Jope, y tú harás que la suban hasta Jerusalén.»

17 Salomón hizo el censo de todos los extranjeros que había en la tierra de Israel, después del que David, su padre, había hecho; y se halló que eran ciento cincuenta y tres mil seiscientos. 18 Y señaló de ellos setenta mil para llevar cargas, ochenta mil para las canteras en las montañas, y tres mil seiscientos como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.
