Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah
17 Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place and strengthened himself against Israel. 2 He placed forces in all the (A)fortified cities of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim (B)that Asa his father had captured. 3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, (C)and not according to the practices of Israel. 5 Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah (D)brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, (E)and he had great riches and honor. 6 His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord. And furthermore, (F)he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.
7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials, Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah, (G)to teach in the cities of Judah; 8 (H)and with them the Levites, Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah; and with these Levites, the priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9 And (I)they taught in Judah, having the Book of the Law of the Lord with them. They went about through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
10 (J)And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat. 11 Some of the Philistines (K)brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute, and the Arabians also brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats. 12 And Jehoshaphat grew steadily greater. He built in Judah fortresses and store cities, 13 and he had large supplies in the cities of Judah. He had soldiers, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem. 14 This was the muster of them by fathers' houses: Of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 mighty men of valor; 15 and next to him Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000; 16 and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, (L)a volunteer for the service of the Lord, with 200,000 mighty men of valor. 17 Of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, with 200,000 men (M)armed with bow and shield; 18 and next to him Jehozabad with 180,000 armed for war. 19 These were in the service of the king, besides (N)those whom the king had placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.

17 Josafat hijo de Asá reinó en su lugar y se hizo fuerte para poder resistir a Israel. 2 Puso tropas en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y guarniciones a lo largo del territorio de Judá e incluso en las ciudades de Efraín que su papá Asá había conquistado.
3 El SEÑOR estuvo con Josafat porque él vivió tal como vivió anteriormente su antepasado David. No buscó ayuda de Baal 4 porque Josafat seguía al Dios de sus antepasados y vivía de acuerdo con sus leyes. No siguió el mal ejemplo de los israelitas. 5 El SEÑOR afirmó el reino bajo el poder de Josafat. Todo Judá le pagaba los impuestos a él, tuvo riqueza y mucho honor. 6 Su decisión de seguir al SEÑOR era tan fuerte que quitó los santuarios sobre las colinas y los postes de Aserá que antes estaban en Judá.
7 En el tercer año de su reinado, Josafat mandó funcionarios a impartir enseñanza en Judá. Entre ellos fueron Ben Jayil, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Micaías. 8 Junto con ellos estaban los levitas Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías y Tobadonías y los sacerdotes Elisama y Jorán. 9 Llevaban con ellos el libro de la ley del SEÑOR para impartir enseñanza en Judá. Hacían recorridos por todas las ciudades de Judá enseñando al pueblo.
10 Por eso el temor del SEÑOR cayó sobre todos los reinos y países vecinos de Judá y no se atrevían a hacerle la guerra a Josafat. 11 De los filisteos llegaban tributos de plata y los árabes le llevaron también 7700 carneros y 7700 chivos. 12 Josafat se iba haciendo cada vez más poderoso y construyó en Judá fortalezas y ciudades de almacenaje. 13 Josafat hizo muchas obras en las ciudades de Judá y mantuvo en Jerusalén un ejército de hombres entrenados para la guerra. 14 Ellos estaban organizados por grupos familiares y esta es la lista de ellos:
De los comandantes de miles de Judá:
El general Adnás, que comandaba un ejército de 300 000 soldados valientes.
15 Le seguía el jefe Johanán, al mando de un ejército de 280 000 soldados;
16 luego estaba Amasías hijo de Zicrí, que se había ofrecido voluntariamente para servir al SEÑOR y comandaba 200 000 soldados.
17 De Benjamín:
Eliadá, valiente guerrero, al frente de una fuerza de 200 000, armados de arcos y escudos.
18 Luego Jozabad al frente de una fuerza de 180 000 soldados bien entrenados para la guerra.
19 Esos soldados servían al rey Josafat sin contar los que estaban en las ciudades fortificadas a lo largo y ancho de Judá.
