¹⁸ Hiram sent him ships commanded by his own officers and manned by experienced crews of sailors. These ships sailed to Ophir with Solomon’s men and brought back to Solomon almost seventeen tons^[a] of gold.

¹⁰ (In addition, the crews of Hiram and Solomon brought gold from Ophir, and they also brought red sandalwood^[a] and precious jewels.

Solomon’s Wealth and Splendor

¹³ Each year Solomon received about 25 tons^[a] of gold.

⁸ I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!

²² The king had a fleet of trading ships of Tarshish that sailed with Hiram’s fleet. Once every three years the ships returned, loaded with gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.^[a]

²⁷ Hiram sent experienced crews of sailors to sail the ships with Solomon’s men. ²⁸ They sailed to Ophir and brought back to Solomon some sixteen tons^[a] of gold.
