²⁰ Therefore the Lord rejected all the people of Israel; he afflicted them and gave them into the hands of plunderers,^(A) until he thrust them from his presence.^(B)

³⁷ You will become a thing of horror,^(A) a byword^(B) and an object of ridicule^(C) among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.^(D)

⁴ But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot^(A) what I have planted,^(B) throughout the earth.^(C)

⁹ I will make them abhorrent^(A) and an offense to all the kingdoms of the earth, a reproach and a byword,^(B) a curse^[a](C) and an object of ridicule, wherever I banish^(D) them.

¹⁵ And the Lord will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot^(A) Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused^(B) the Lord’s anger by making Asherah^(C) poles.^[a]

²⁸ In furious anger and in great wrath^(A) the Lord uprooted^(B) them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.”
