⁷ Now ^(A)it was in the heart of my father David to build a ^[a]temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

God’s Covenant with David^(A)

17 Now ^(B)it came to pass, when David was dwelling in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.”

² Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brethren and my people: ^(A)I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for ^(B)the footstool of our God, and had made preparations to build it. ³ But God said to me, ^(C)‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you have been a man of war and have shed ^(D)blood.’ ⁴ However the Lord God of Israel ^(E)chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen ^(F)Judah to be the ruler. And of the house of Judah, ^(G)the house of my father, and ^(H)among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel.

⁷ And David said to Solomon: “My son, as for me, ^(A)it was in my mind to build a house ^(B)to the name of the Lord my God;

¹⁷ Now ^(A)it was in the heart of my father David to build a ^[a]temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in ^(A)a house of cedar, ^(B)but the ark of God dwells inside tent ^(C)curtains.”

³ Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your ^(D)heart, for the Lord is with you.”
