⁵ ‘Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel.

¹⁹ O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

¹⁶ ‘Since the day that I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that ^(A)My name might be there; but I chose ^(B)David to be over My people Israel.’

¹⁵ But My mercy shall not depart from him, ^(A)as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. ¹⁶ And ^(B)your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before ^[a]you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”

⁶ For I have not dwelt in a house ^(A)since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in ^(B)a tent and in a tabernacle. ⁷ Wherever I have ^(C)moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded ^(D)to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, ^(A)“You have done foolishly. ^(B)You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. ^14 (C)But now your kingdom shall not continue. ^(D)The Lord has sought for Himself a man ^(E)after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have ^(F)not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him ^(A)whom the Lord has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?”

So all the people shouted and said, ^(B)“Long^[a] live the king!”

¹¹ then there will be the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide. There you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, and all your choice offerings which you vow to the Lord.

⁵ “But you shall seek the ^(A)place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His ^(B)dwelling^[a] place; and there you shall go.
