The Furnishings of the Temple

²³ In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olivewood, each ten cubits high.^{(A) 24} Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub and five cubits the length of the other wing of the cherub; it was ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other. ²⁵ The other cherub also measured ten cubits; both cherubim had the same measure and the same form. ²⁶ The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was that of the other cherub. ²⁷ He put the cherubim in the innermost part of the house; the wings of the cherubim were spread out so that a wing of one was touching the one wall and a wing of the other cherub was touching the other wall; their other wings toward the center of the house were touching wing to wing.^{(B) 28} He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.

⁶ He made a cover of pure gold; two cubits and a half was its length and a cubit and a half its width.^{(A) 7} He made two cherubim of hammered gold; at the two ends of the cover he made them, ⁸ one cherub at one end and one cherub at the other end; of one piece with the cover he made the cherubim at its two ends. ⁹ The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the cover with their wings. They faced one another; the faces of the cherubim were turned toward the cover.

⁴ In it stood the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which there were a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;^{(A) 5} above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat.^[a] Of these things we cannot speak now in detail.^(B)
