²¹ to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of ^(A)Jeremiah, until the land ^(B)had enjoyed her Sabbaths. As long as she lay desolate ^(C)she kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

The Lord Will Comfort Zion

¹² Then the Angel of the Lord answered and said, “O Lord of hosts, ^(A)how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry ^(B)these seventy years?”

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the Lord through ^(A)Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy ^(A)years.

¹² ‘Then it will come to pass, ^(B)when ^[a]seventy years are completed, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity,’ says the Lord; ^(C)‘and I will make it a perpetual desolation.

⁴ but in the ^(A)seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn ^(B)rest for the land, a sabbath to the Lord. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard. ^5 (C)What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine, for it is a year of rest for the land. ⁶ And the sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you: for you, your male and female servants, your hired man, and the stranger who dwells with you,

¹² I also spoke to ^(A)Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, “Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live! ^13 (B)Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the Lord has spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
