²⁴ So his servants took him out of the chariot and carried him in his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem. And he died and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. ^(A)All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

^11 (A)On that day ^(B)the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great ^(C)as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

^30 (A)And his servants carried him dead in a chariot from ^(B)Megiddo and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. ^(C)And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's place.

Death Comes to All

9 But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, ^(A)how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are ^(B)in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him. ^2 (C)It is the same for all, since ^(D)the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil,^[a] to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who ^(E)swears is as he who shuns an oath.

Man Cannot Know God's Ways

¹⁴ There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people ^(A)to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people ^(B)to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

²⁸ Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.’” And they brought back word to the king.

⁴³ And he made him ride in his second chariot. ^(A)And they called out before him, “Bow the knee!”^[a] Thus he set him ^(B)over all the land of Egypt.
