²² Josiah, however, would not turn away from him, but disguised^(A) himself to engage him in battle. He would not listen to what Necho had said at God’s command but went to fight him on the plain of Megiddo.

²⁹ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised^(A) himself and went into battle.

²¹ But Necho sent messengers to him, saying, “What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told^(A) me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.”

³⁰ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise,^(A) but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.

¹⁶ Then they gathered the kings together^(A) to the place that in Hebrew^(B) is called Armageddon.^(C)

¹¹ On that day the weeping^(A) in Jerusalem will be as great as the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.^(B)

⁴ But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the Lord.”

⁵ So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—four hundred men—and asked them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?”

“Go,” they answered, “for God will give it into the king’s hand.”

⁶ But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

³⁰ Josiah’s servants brought his body in a chariot^(A) from Megiddo to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

²⁷ When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.^[a] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam,^(A) but he escaped to Megiddo^(B) and died there.
