^7 (A)He even set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the ^[a]house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, ^(B)“In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever;

⁴ He also built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, ^(A)“In Jerusalem shall My name be forever.”

¹⁶ For now ^(A)I have chosen and ^[a]sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and ^[b]My eyes and ^[c]My heart will be there perpetually.

¹⁵ He took away ^(A)the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city.

^6 (A)Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I ^(B)have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’

⁶ And he brought out the ^(A)wooden^[a] image from the house of the Lord, to the Brook Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it at the Brook Kidron and ground it to ^(B)ashes, and threw its ashes on ^(C)the graves of the common people.

⁷ He even set a carved image of ^[a]Asherah that he had made, in the ^[b]house of which the Lord had said to David and to Solomon his son, ^(A)“In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever; ^8 (B)and I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers—only if they are careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
