²⁵ But the people of the land executed all those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.

The Reign and Captivity of Jehoahaz^(A)

36 Then ^(B)the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s place in Jerusalem.

Josiah Reigns in Judah^(A)

34 Josiah ^(B)was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

Uzziah Reigns in Judah^(A)

26 Now all the people of Judah took ^[a]Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

³³ So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood ^(A)defiles the land, and no ^[a]atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except ^(B)by the blood of him who shed it.

³¹ Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.

⁵ Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; ^(A)from the hand of every beast I will require it, and ^(B)from the hand of man. From the hand of every ^(C)man’s brother I will require the life of man.
