²⁶ Then Hezekiah repented^(A) of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore the Lord’s wrath did not come on them during the days of Hezekiah.^(B)

¹⁸ “Micah^(A) of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says:

¹⁹ “Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah^(F) fear the Lord and seek^(G) his favor? And did not the Lord relent,^(H) so that he did not bring the disaster^(I) he pronounced against them? We are about to bring a terrible disaster^(J) on ourselves!”

¹² In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled^(A) himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.^(A)

²⁷ Because your heart was responsive^(A) and you humbled^(B) yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. ²⁸ Now I will gather you to your ancestors,^(C) and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.’”^(D)

So they took her answer back to the king.

⁶ The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.^(A) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. ⁷ And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.^(B)”

⁸ “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,^(C)” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.^(D)”

²³ But unlike his father Manasseh, he did not humble^(A) himself before the Lord; Amon increased his guilt.

¹⁹ His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, as well as all his sins and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled^(A) himself—all these are written in the records of the seers.^[a](B)

¹⁶ Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: ¹⁷ The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.^(A) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. ¹⁸ And some of your descendants,^(B) your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”^(C)

¹⁹ “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”
