¹⁵ And under him were ^(A)Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, his faithful assistants in ^(B)the cities of the priests, to distribute ^(C)allotments to their brethren by divisions, to the great as well as the small.

⁹ So they gave from the tribe of the children of Judah and from the tribe of the children of Simeon these cities which are ^[a]designated by name, ¹⁰ which were for the children of Aaron, one of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi; for the lot was theirs first. ^11 (A)And they gave them ^[b]Kirjath Arba (Arba was the father of ^(B)Anak), ^(C)which is Hebron, in the mountains of Judah, with the common-land surrounding it. ¹² But ^(D)the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.

¹³ Thus ^(E)to the children of Aaron the priest they gave ^(F)Hebron with its common-land (a city of refuge for the slayer), ^(G)Libnah with its common-land, ^14 (H)Jattir with its common-land, ^(I)Eshtemoa with its common-land, ^15 (J)Holon with its common-land, ^(K)Debir with its common-land, ^16 (L)Ain with its common-land, ^(M)Juttah with its common-land, and ^(N)Beth Shemesh with its common-land: nine cities from those two tribes; ¹⁷ and from the tribe of Benjamin, ^(O)Gibeon with its common-land, ^(P)Geba with its common-land, ¹⁸ Anathoth with its common-land, and ^(Q)Almon with its common-land: four cities. ¹⁹ All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their common-lands.

¹³ Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king and Azariah the ^(A)ruler of the house of God.

¹² Then these Levites arose: ^(A)Mahath the son of Amasai and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the ^(B)Kohathites; of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah and Eden the son of Joah;

⁸ And they cast lots for their duty, the small as well as the great, ^(A)the teacher with the student.

²² All those chosen as gatekeepers were two hundred and twelve. ^(A)They were recorded by their genealogy, in their villages. David and Samuel ^(B)the seer had appointed them to their trusted office.

Dwelling Places of the Levites^(A)

^54 (B)Now these are their dwelling places throughout their settlements in their territory, for they were given by lot to the sons of Aaron, of the family of the Kohathites: ^55 (C)They gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, with its surrounding ^[a]common-lands. ^56 (D)But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And ^(E)to the sons of Aaron they gave one of the cities of refuge, Hebron; also Libnah with its common-lands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its common-lands, ^58 [b]Hilen with its common-lands, Debir with its common-lands, ^59 [c]Ashan with its common-lands, and Beth Shemesh with its common-lands. ⁶⁰ And from the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its common-lands, ^[d]Alemeth with its common-lands, and Anathoth with its common-lands. All their cities among their families were thirteen.
