Judah Defeated

^5 (A)Therefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.

Isaiah Sent to King Ahaz

7 In the days of ^(A)Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, ^(B)Rezin the king of Syria and ^(C)Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but could not yet mount an attack against it.

²⁴ Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, ^(A)the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, ^(B)because Judah^[a] had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they ^(C)executed judgment on Joash.

^5 (A)Then Rezin king of Syria and ^(B)Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to wage war on Jerusalem, and they besieged Ahaz ^(C)but could not conquer him. ⁶ At that time Rezin the king of Syria recovered ^(D)Elath for Syria and drove the men of Judah from ^(E)Elath, and the Edomites came to Elath, where they dwell to this day.

⁶ “Let us go up against Judah and terrify it, and let us conquer it^[a] for ourselves, and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”

Jerusalem Captured and Burned

^17 (A)Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.

^5 (A)Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord his God.

^11 (A)Therefore the Lord brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and ^(B)bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon.

^14 (A)So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he ^(B)gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. ^(C)And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, ^(D)so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.

^2 (A)“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
