Uzziah's Pride and Punishment

¹⁶ But when ^(A)he was strong, ^(B)he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah ^(A)did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for ^(B)his heart was proud. Therefore ^(C)wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁹ You say, ‘See, I^[a] have struck down Edom,’ and ^(A)your heart has lifted you up in boastfulness. But now stay at home. Why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”

¹⁷ Beware ^(A)lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’

^14 (A)then your heart be lifted up, and you ^(B)forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,

¹⁸ Let no one ^(A)disqualify you, ^(B)insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, ^(C)going on in detail about visions,^{[a] (D)}puffed up without reason by ^(E)his sensuous mind,

¹² And when the king came from Damascus, the king viewed the altar. ^(A)Then the king drew near to the altar and went up on it ¹³ and burned his burnt offering and his grain offering and poured his drink offering and threw the blood of his peace offerings on the altar.

¹⁰ You have indeed ^(A)struck down Edom, ^(B)and your heart has lifted you up. Be content with your glory, and stay at home, for why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”
