¹⁸ Therefore they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served ^(A)wooden images and idols; and ^(B)wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem because of their trespass.

^20 (A)Did not Achan the son of Zerah ^[a]commit a trespass in the ^[b]accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.’ ”

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

⁴ Now it happened after this that Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the Lord.

² And Jehu the son of Hanani ^(A)the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and ^(B)love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the ^(C)wrath of the Lord is upon you.

²⁵ But Hezekiah ^(A)did not repay according to the favor shown him, for ^(B)his heart was lifted up; ^(C)therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹³ and said to them, “You shall not bring the captives here, for we already have offended the Lord. You intend to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

²³ For they also built for themselves ^(A)high^[a] places, ^(B)sacred pillars, and ^(C)wooden images on every high hill and ^(D)under every green tree.
