⁵ and one third shall be at the king's house and one third at the Gate of the Foundation. And all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

² And a man ^(A)lame from birth was being carried, ^(B)whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate ^(C)to ask alms of those entering the temple.

^2 (A)The prince shall enter by the vestibule of the gate from outside, and shall take his stand by ^(B)the post of the gate. ^(C)The priests shall offer his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at ^(D)the threshold of the gate. Then he shall go out, but the gate shall not be shut until evening. ^3 (E)The people of the land shall bow down at the entrance of that gate before the Lord on the Sabbaths and on the new moons.

² And the Lord said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for ^(A)the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it. Therefore it shall remain shut. ³ Only ^(B)the prince may sit in it ^(C)to eat bread before the Lord. He ^(D)shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate, and shall go out by the same way.”

⁵ And he commanded them, “This is the thing that you shall do: one third of you, ^(A)those who come off duty on the Sabbath and guard the king's house ⁶ (^(B)another third being at the gate Sur and a third at the gate behind the guards) shall guard the palace.^[a]
