¹⁵ He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged^(A) because of this vast army. For the battle^(B) is not yours, but God’s.

⁷ “Be strong and courageous.^(A) Do not be afraid or discouraged^(B) because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.^{(C) 8} With him is only the arm of flesh,^(D) but with us^(E) is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.”^(F) And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.

⁶ Be strong and courageous.^(A) Do not be afraid or terrified^(B) because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;^(C) he will never leave you^(D) nor forsake^(E) you.”

⁴⁷ All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword^(A) or spear that the Lord saves;^(B) for the battle^(C) is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

⁸ The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;^(A) he will never leave you nor forsake you.^(B) Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

¹³ Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid.^(A) Stand firm and you will see^(B) the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see^(C) again. ¹⁴ The Lord will fight^(D) for you; you need only to be still.”^(E)

²⁹ Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid^(A) of them.^{(B) 30} The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight^(C) for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes,

Going to War

20 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours,^(A) do not be afraid^(B) of them,^(C) because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with^(D) you.
