² And he placed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of ^(A)Judah and in the cities of Ephraim ^(B)which Asa his father had taken.

⁸ And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of ^[a]Oded the prophet, he took courage, and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities ^(A)which he had taken in the mountains of Ephraim; and he restored the altar of the Lord that was before the vestibule of the Lord.

¹¹ And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine. ¹² Also in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

Rehoboam Fortifies the Cities

⁵ So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.
