¹⁹ So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.^(A)

⁷ From the days of our ancestors to this day we have been deep in guilt, and for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been handed over to the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, and to utter shame, as is now the case.^(A)

⁵ Do you not know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt?^{(A) 6} Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord,^{(B) 7} and certain worthless scoundrels gathered around him and defied Rehoboam son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young and irresolute and could not withstand them.

¹⁶ When all Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king,

So all Israel departed to their tents.^(A)

⁹ The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place^[a] in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen from outside; they are there to this day.^(A)

²¹ When he had torn Israel from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king. Jeroboam drove Israel from following the Lord and made them commit great sin.^{(A) 22} The people of Israel continued in all the sins that Jeroboam committed; they did not depart from them ²³ until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had foretold through all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day.

¹⁹ So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.^(A)

First Dynasty: Jeroboam Reigns over Israel

²⁰ When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. There was no one who followed the house of David except the tribe of Judah alone.^(B)

⁹ (Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood, and they are there to this day.)^(A)
