யோய்தா ஆசாரியனும் யோவாஸ் ராஜாவும்
23 ஆறு ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு யோய்தா தனது பலத்தைக் காட்டினான். அவன் எல்லா படைத்தலைவர்களுடனும் ஒரு ஒப்பந்தம் செய்துகொண்டான். எரோகாமின் குமாரன் அசரியா, யோகனானின் குமாரன் இஸ்மவேல், ஓபேதின் குமாரன் அசரியா, ஆதாயாவின் குமாரன் மாசெயா, சிக்ரியின் குமாரன் எலிஷாபாத் ஆகியோர் அந்த படைத்தலைவர்கள். 2 அவர்கள் யூதா முழுவதும் சுற்றி யூதாவின் நகரங்களில் இருந்த லேவியர்களைக் கூட்டினார்கள். இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களின் தலைவர்களையும் கூட்டினார்கள். பிறகு அவர்கள் எருசலேமிற்குச் சென்றனர். 3 அனைத்து ஜனங்களும் கூடி, தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தில் ராஜாவோடு ஒரு ஒப்பந்தம் செய்துக்கொண்டனர்.
யோய்தா அவர்களிடம், “ராஜாவின் குமாரன் ஆட்சி செய்வான். இதுதான் தாவீதின் சந்ததியினரைக் குறித்துக் கர்த்தர் வாக்களித்தது. 4 இப்போது, நீங்களும் செய்ய வேண்டியது இதுதான். ஆசாரியர்களிலும் லேவியர்களிலும் மூன்றில் ஒரு பகுதியினர் ஓய்வு நாளில் கடமையாற்றச் செல்லும்பொழுது கதவுகளைக் காவல் காக்க வேண்டும். 5 அடுத்த மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கினர் ராஜாவின் இருப்பிடத்தைக் காவல் காக்கவேண்டும். மேலும் மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கினர் அஸ்திபார வாசலைக் காவல் காக்கவேண்டும். ஆனால் மற்றவர்கள் அனைவரும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயப் பிரகாரங்களில் இருக்கவேண்டும். 6 ஒருவரையும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்குள் அனுமதிக்க வேண்டாம். ஆசாரியர்கள் மற்றும் லேவியர்களை மட்டும் அனுமதிக்கவேண்டும். அவர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் சேவைச்செய்பவர்கள். அதோடு பரிசுத்தமானவர்கள். மற்றவர்கள் தங்கள் பணிகளைச் செய்வார்களாக. 7 லேவியர்கள் ராஜாவுக்கு அருகில் தங்கயிருக்கவேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் வாளைத் தங்களோடு வைத்திருக்கவேண்டும். மற்றவர்கள் எவராவது ஆலயத்திற்குள் நுழைய முயன்றால் அவர்களைக் கொல்லவேண்டும். ராஜா எங்கே சென்றாலும் அவனோடு நீங்கள் செல்ல வேண்டும்” என்றான்.
8 லேவியர்களும் யூதா ஜனங்களனைவரும் யோய்தா ஆசாரியன் சொன்னவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் கீழ்ப்படிந்தனர். யோய்தா ஆசாரியக் குழுவிலுள்ள எவரையும் விட்டுவைக்கவில்லை. எனவே ஒவ்வொரு தளபதிகளும் தங்கள் ஆட்களோடு முறைப்படி ஓய்வு நாளில் வந்து முறைப்படி ஓய்வு நாளில் போய்க்கொண்டு இருந்தனர். 9 தாவீது ராஜாவுக்குரிய ஈட்டிகளையும், சிறியதும் பெரியதுமான கேடயங்களையும் யோய்தா ஆசாரியன் அதிகாரிகளுக்குக் கொடுத்தான். இந்த ஆயுதங்கள் எல்லாம் தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்திற்குள் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன. 10 பிறகு யோய்தா ஆட்களிடம் எங்கெங்கே நிற்க வேண்டும் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான். ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் ஆயுதங்களைக் கையில் வைத்திருந்தனர். ஆலயத்தின் வலது பக்கத்தில் இருந்து ஆலயத்தின் இடது பக்கம் வரை வரிசையாக ஆட்கள் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர்கள் பலிபீடத்தின் அருகிலும் ஆலயத்திலும், ராஜா அருகிலும் நின்றனர். 11 அவர்கள் ராஜாவின் குமாரனை வெளியே அழைத்து வந்து அவனுக்கு முடிச்சூட்டினார்கள். அவனுக்குச் சட்டப் புத்தகத்தின் ஒரு பிரதியைக் கொடுத்தனர். பிறகு அவர்கள் யோவாசை ராஜாவாக்கினார்கள். யோய்தாவும் அவனது குமாரர்களும் அவனுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்தனர். அவர்கள், “ராஜா பல்லாண்டு வாழ்க!” என்று வாழ்த்தினார்கள்.
12 ஜனங்கள் ஆலயத்தை நோக்கி ஓடுவதையும் அங்கே அவர்கள் ராஜாவை வாழ்த்துவதையும் அத்தாலியாள் கேட்டாள். அவளும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்கு ஜனங்களிடையே வந்தாள். 13 அவள் ராஜாவைக் கண்டாள், முன்வாயிலுக்கு முன்னால் உள்ள தூணுக்கருகில் ராஜா நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தான். அதிகாரிகளும் எக்காளம் ஊதுகிறவர்களும் அரசனுக்கருகில் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தனர். அந்த நாட்டு ஜனங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு எக்காளம் ஊதினார்கள். பாடகர்களும் இசைக்கருவிகளை இயக்கினார்கள். அவர்கள் ஜனங்களையும் துதித்துப் பாடும்படிச் செய்தனர். அத்தாலியாள் இதனைப் பார்த்து தன் ஆடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, “துரோகம், துரோகம்” என்று கத்தினாள்.
14 யோய்தா ஆசாரியன் படைத்தளபதிகளை அழைத்தான். அவன் அவர்களிடம், “அத்தாலியாளை பிடித்து வெளியே கொண்டுபோங்கள். அவளை யாராவது பின்பற்றினால், அவர்களைக் கொல்ல உங்கள் வாள்களைப் பயன்படுத்துங்கள்” என்றான். அதோடு ஆசாரியர் வீரர்களிடம், “அத்தாலியாளைக் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் கொன்றுவிடாதீர்கள்” என்று எச்சரித்தான். 15 அத்தாலியாள் ராஜாவின் வீட்டுக் குதிரை வாயிலுக்குள் நுழைய முயன்றபோது வீரர்கள் அவளைப் பிடித்தார்கள். பிறகு அவளை அங்கேயே கொன்றனர்.
16 பிறகு யோய்தா ராஜாவோடும், அனைத்து ஜனங்களோடும் ஒரு ஒப்பந்தம் செய்துக்கொண்டான். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் கர்த்தருடைய ஜனங்கள் என்பதை ஒப்புக்கொண்டனர். 17 ஜனங்கள் அனைவரும் பாகால் ஆலயத்திற்குப்போய் அதை இடித்தனர். அவர்கள் பலிபீடங்களையும், விக்கிரகங்களையும் நொறுக்கினார்கள். பாகாலின் பூசாரியான மாத்தானைப் பலிபீடத்துக்கு முன்பாகவே கொன்றுபோட்டனர்.
18 பிறகு கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயப் பொறுப்புக்கான ஆசாரியர்களை யோய்தா தேர்ந்தெடுத்தான். அவர்கள் லேவியர்களாக இருந்தனர். தாவீதே அவர்களுக்கு கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயப் பொறுப்பினைக் கொடுத்துள்ளார். மோசேயின் சட்டத்தின்படியே அவர்கள் கர்த்தருக்குத் தகனபலிகளைத் தந்தனர். தாவீதின் கட்டளைபடியே அவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு பாடியவண்ணம் காணிக்கைகளைத் தந்தனர். 19 யோய்தா கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலுள்ள அனைத்து வாசல்களிலும் காவலர்களை நியமித்தான். அதனால் சுத்தமில்லாதவர்களும் ஆலயத்திற்குள் நுழையாதபடி செய்தான்.
20 யோய்தா படைத்தளபதிகளையும், பெரியவர்களையும், ஆட்சியாளர்களையும், அந்த நாட்டில் வசித்த அனைவரையும் ஒன்றாய்த் திரட்டினான். பிறகு கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலிருந்து ராஜாவை வெளியே அழைத்து வந்து உயர்ந்த வாசல்வழியாக அரண்மனைக்கு அழைத்துச்சென்றான். அங்கே அவனைச் சிங்காசனத்தின் மேல் அமரவைத்தனர். 21 யூதாவிலுள்ள ஜனங்கள் அனைவரும் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு இருந்தனர். எருசலேம் நகரம் சமாதானமடைந்தது. ஏனென்றால் அத்தாலியாள் வாளால் கொல்லப்பட்டாள்.

Joas devient roi
23 La septième année[a], le prêtre Yehoyada s’arma de courage et fit venir les chefs des « centaines[b] » : Azaria, fils de Yeroham, Ismaël, fils de Yohanân, Azaria, fils d’Obed, Maaséya, fils d’Adaya, et Elishaphath, fils de Zikri, et il fit un pacte avec eux. 2 Les officiers parcoururent le royaume de Juda et rassemblèrent les lévites de toutes les villes de Juda et les chefs des groupes familiaux d’Israël, puis ils revinrent avec eux à Jérusalem, 3 et toute cette assemblée conclut une alliance avec le jeune roi dans le Temple. Yehoyada leur dit : Voici le fils du roi, il régnera conformément à la promesse que l’Eternel a faite au sujet des descendants de David[c]. 4 Voici ce que vous allez faire : ce prochain sabbat, l’une de vos compagnies sera de service ; en qualité de prêtres et de lévites, un tiers d’entre eux gardera les entrées, 5 un autre tiers surveillera le palais royal, la troisième section se tiendra en faction à la porte de Yesod. Tout le peuple occupera le parvis du temple de l’Eternel. 6 Personne ne doit pénétrer dans le temple de l’Eternel, excepté les prêtres et les lévites de service qui pourront y entrer puisqu’ils sont saints. Tout le monde doit respecter le rituel prescrit par l’Eternel. 7 Les lévites entoureront le roi de tous les côtés, chacun les armes à la main. Quiconque voudra forcer l’accès au Temple sera mis à mort. Vous accompagnerez le roi dans toutes ses allées et venues.
8 Les lévites et tous les Judéens exécutèrent ponctuellement tous les ordres que le prêtre Yehoyada leur avait donnés. Ils prirent chacun leurs hommes, ceux qui commençaient leur service le jour du repos et ceux qui le terminaient ce jour-là, car le prêtre Yehoyada n’avait donné congé à aucune des classes de lévites. 9 Le prêtre Yehoyada remit aux chefs de « centaines » les lances ainsi que les grands et les petits boucliers du roi David qui se trouvaient dans le Temple. 10 Il posta tous les hommes en demi-cercle, chacun son javelot à la main, en demi-cercle devant l’édifice, depuis l’angle sud-est du Temple jusqu’à l’angle nord-est, près de l’autel, de manière à entourer le roi. 11 Alors on fit sortir le fils du roi, on plaça la couronne sur sa tête et on lui remit l’acte de l’alliance. On le sacra roi : Yehoyada et ses fils l’oignirent d’huile et ils crièrent : Vive le roi !
La mort d’Athalie
12 Athalie entendit le bruit du peuple qui accourait et acclamait le roi. Elle vint au milieu de la foule au temple de l’Eternel, 13 regarda et vit le roi qui se tenait debout sur son estrade à l’entrée du sanctuaire. Il était entouré des capitaines de la garde et des joueurs de trompette. Toute la population exultait de joie tandis qu’on sonnait des trompettes et que les musiciens, accompagnés de leurs instruments, dirigeaient les chants de louanges. A ce spectacle, Athalie déchira ses vêtements et dit : C’est un complot ! C’est un complot !
14 Alors le prêtre Yehoyada fit avancer les chefs de « centaines » qui commandaient l’armée et leur ordonna : Faites-la sortir de l’enceinte du Temple entre les rangs ! Et si quelqu’un la suit, qu’il soit mis à mort. Car, dit le prêtre, ne la mettez pas à mort dans l’enceinte du temple de l’Eternel.
15 Ils s’emparèrent donc d’Athalie et la menèrent vers le palais royal par l’entrée de la porte des chevaux : c’est là qu’ils la mirent à mort.

16 Yehoyada conclut entre lui, tout le peuple et le roi une alliance qui les engageait à être le peuple de l’Eternel. 17 Toute la population se rendit au temple de Baal et le démolit. On mit en pièces ses autels et ses statues, et l’on tua devant les autels Mattân, le prêtre de Baal. 18 Yehoyada confia la surveillance du temple de l’Eternel aux prêtres-lévites que David avait répartis pour le service du temple de l’Eternel, afin d’offrir des holocaustes à l’Eternel, conformément aux prescriptions de la Loi de Moïse, dans la joie, et en chantant les cantiques composés par David. 19 Il installa les portiers aux entrées du temple de l’Eternel pour en interdire l’entrée à toute personne rituellement impure, pour quelque raison que ce soit. 20 Il rassembla les chefs de « centaines », les notables, les dirigeants du peuple, ainsi que toute la population du pays, et il fit descendre le roi du Temple au palais royal par la porte supérieure. On installa le roi sur le trône du royaume. 21 Tout le peuple du pays était dans la joie, et le calme régnait dans la ville maintenant qu’on avait fait mourir Athalie.

23 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of the sons of David.
4 This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;
5 And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.
6 But let none come into the house of the Lord, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the Lord.
7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
9 Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.
10 And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
11 Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.
12 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the Lord:
13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the Lord.
15 So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king's house, they slew her there.
16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord's people.
17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
18 Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the Lord by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the Lord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.
20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the Lord: and they came through the high gate into the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.
