24 Подир това гневът на Господа пак пламна против Израиля, и Той подбуди Давида против тях, казвайки: Иди, преброй Израиля и Юда.
2 Царят, прочее каза на началника на войската Иоав, който бе с него: Мини сега през всичките Израилеви племена, от Дан до Вирсавее, та преброй людете, за да узная броя на людете.
3 А Иоав каза на царя: Господ твоят Бог дано притури на людете стократно повече отколкото са, и очите на господаря ми царя дано видят това; но защо господарят ми царят намира наслада в това нещо?
4 Обаче царската дума надделя над Иоава и над началниците на войската излязоха от царя за да преброят Израилевите люде.
5 Като преминаха Иордан, разположиха се при Ароир, към Гад и към Язир, отдясно на града, който е всред долината.
6 После дойдоха в Галаад и в земята Тахтим-одси; дойдоха и в Дан-яан и наоколо до Сидон;
7 тогава дойдоха в Тирската крепост и във всичките градове на евейците и на ханаанците; и излязоха в Вирсавее в южна Юда.
8 И тъй, като преминаха през цялата земя, дойдоха в Ерусалим в края на девет месеца и двадесет дни.
9 И Иоав доложи на царя броя на преброените люде; те бяха: от Израиля, осемстотин хиляди силни мъже, които можеха да теглят нож; и от Юдовите мъже, петстотин хиляди.
10 И след това като преброи Давид людете, сърцето му го изобличи. И Давид рече на Господа: Съгреших тежко като извърших това нещо; но сега, моля Ти се, Господи, отмахни беззаконието на слугата Си, защото направих голяма глупост.
11 И когато стана Давид на утринта, Господното слово дойде към пророка Гад, Давидовия гадач, казвайки:
12 Иди, кажи на Давида, Така казва Господ: Три неща ти предлагам; избери си едно от тях, за да го извърша над тебе.
13 Дойде, прочее, Гад при Давида та му извести това ; после му рече: Дали за седем години да има върху тебе глад по земята ти? или три месеца да бягаш от неприятелите си, като те преследват? или три дни да има мор в земята ти? Размисли сега и виж какъв отговор да възвърна на Оногова, Който ме е пратил.
14 И Давид рече на Гада: Намирам се много на тясно; обаче нека паднем в ръката на Господа, защото Неговите милости са много; но в ръката на човека да се изпадна.
15 И тъй, Господ прати мор върху Израиля от оная утрин до определеното време; и измряха от людете, от Дан до Вирсавее, седемдесет хиляди мъже.
16 А когато ангелът простря ръката си към Ерусалим, за да го погуби, Господ се разкая за злото, и рече на ангела, който погубваше людете: Стига вече, оттегли сега ръката си. И ангелът Господен бе близо до гумното на евусеца Орна.
17 И когато видя ангела, който поразяваше людете, Давид проговори Господу, казвайки: Ето, аз съгреших, аз извърших беззаконие; но тия овци що са сторили? Над мене, моля Ти се, нека бъде ръката Ти, и над моя бащин дом.
18 В същия ден Гад дойде при Давида та му рече: Възлез, издигни олтар Господу на гумното на евусеца Орна.
19 И така, Давид възлезе според Гадовата дума, както заповяда Господ.
20 И Орна, като погледна, видя, че царят и слугите му идат към него; и Орна излезе та се поклони на царя с лице до земята.
21 Тогава рече Орна: Защо е дошъл господарят ми царят при слугата си? А Давид каза: Да купя гумното от тебе та да издигна олтар Господу, за да престане язвата между людете.
22 А Орна рече на Давида: Господарят ми царят нека вземе и принесе в жертва каквото му се вижда за добре; ето воловете за всеизгаряне, и диканите и оръдията на воловете за дърва;
23 всички тези, о царю, дава Орна на царя. Орна каза още на царя: Господ твоят Бог да има благоволение към тебе.
24 А царят рече на Орна: Не, но непременно ще го купя от тебе за определена цена; защото не ща да принеса на Господа моя Бог всеизгаряния, за които не съм похарчил. И тъй, Давид купи гумното; а воловете купи за петдесет сребърни сикли.
25 И там Давид издигна олтар Господу, и принесе всеизгаряния и примирителни приноси. И Господ прие молбата за земята, та язвата престана между Израиля.

David’s Sin—He Takes a Census(A)
24 The Lord became angry with Israel again, so he provoked David to turn against Israel. He said, “Go, count Israel and Judah.”
2 King David said to Joab, the commander of the army who was with him, “Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and count the people. That way I will know how many there are.”
3 Joab responded to the king, “May the Lord your God multiply the people a hundred times over, and may Your Majesty ⌞live⌟ to see it. But why does Your Majesty wish to do this?”
4 However, the king overruled Joab and the commanders of the army. So they left the king ⌞in order⌟ to count the people of Israel. 5 They crossed the Jordan River and camped at Aroer, south of the city in the middle of the valley. Then they went to Gad and to Jazer. 6 They went to Gilead and to Tahtim Hodshi and then to Dan Jaan and around toward Sidon. 7 They went to the fortified city of Tyre and all the cities of the Hivites and the Canaanites. Then they went to Beersheba in the Negev of Judah. 8 When they had covered the whole country, they came to Jerusalem after 9 months and 20 days. 9 Joab reported the census figures to the king: In Israel there were 800,000 able-bodied men who could serve in the army, and in Judah there were 500,000.
10 After David counted the people, his conscience troubled him. David said to the Lord, “I have committed a terrible sin by what I have done. Lord, please forgive me because I have acted very foolishly.”
11 When David got up in the morning, the Lord spoke his word to the prophet Gad, David’s seer.[a] 12 “Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I’m offering you three choices. Choose the one you want me to do to you.’ ”
13 When Gad came to David, he told David this and asked, “Should seven years of famine come to you and your land, or three months during which you flee from your enemies as they pursue you, or should there be a three-day plague in your land? Think it over, and decide what answer I should give the one who sent me.”
14 “I’m in a desperate situation,” David told Gad. “Please let us fall into the Lord’s hands because he is very merciful. But don’t let me fall into human hands.”
15 So the Lord sent a plague among the Israelites from that morning until the time he had chosen. Of the people from Dan to Beersheba, 70,000 died. 16 But when the Messenger stretched out his arm to destroy Jerusalem, the Lord changed his mind about the disaster. “Enough!” he said to the Messenger who was destroying the people. “Put down your weapon.” The Messenger of the Lord was at the threshing floor [b] of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 When David saw the Messenger who had been killing the people, he said to the Lord, “I’ve sinned. I’ve done wrong. What have these sheep done? Please let your punishment be against me and against my father’s family.”
18 That day Gad came to David and said to him, “Go, set up an altar for the Lord at Araunah the Jebusite’s threshing floor.”
19 David went as Gad had told him and as the Lord had commanded him. 20 When Araunah looked down and saw the king and his men coming toward him, he went out and bowed down with his face touching the ground in front of the king. 21 “Why has Your Majesty come to me?” Araunah asked.
David answered, “To buy the threshing floor from you and to build an altar for the Lord. Then the plague on the people will stop.”
22 Araunah said to David, “Take it, Your Majesty, and offer whatever you think is right. There are oxen for the burnt offering, and there are threshers and oxen yokes [c] for firewood.” 23 All this Araunah gave to the king and said, “May the Lord your God accept you.”
24 “No!” the king said to Araunah. “I must buy it from you at a ⌞fair⌟ price. I won’t offer the Lord my God burnt sacrifices that cost me nothing.”
So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 1¼ pounds of silver. 25 David built an altar for the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. So the Lord heard the prayers for the country, and the plague on Israel stopped.

24 Und der Zorn des Herrn ergrimmte abermals wider Israel, und er[a] reizte David wider sie, indem er sprach: Gehe hin, zähle Israel und Juda!
2 Und der König sprach zu Joab, seinem Feldhauptmann, der bei ihm war: Durchziehe doch alle Stämme Israels, von Dan bis Beerseba, und mustere das Volk, damit ich ihre Zahl erfahre! 3 Joab sprach zum König: Der Herr, dein Gott, füge zu diesem Volke, wie es jetzt ist, noch hundertmal mehr hinzu, daß mein Herr und König es mit seinen eigenen Augen sehe; aber warum verlangt mein Herr und König so etwas? 4 Doch des Königs Wort blieb fest wider Joab und die Heerführer; so zogen Joab und die Heerführer von dem Könige aus, um das Volk Israel zu zählen.
5 Und sie gingen über den Jordan und lagerten sich zu Aroer, zur Rechten der Stadt, die mitten im Tale von Gad liegt und gegen Jaeser. 6 Und sie kamen gen Gilead und in die Gegend von Tahtim-Hodsi, und als sie gen Dan-Jaan kamen, wandten sie sich nach Zidon. 7 Und sie kamen zu der Festung Tyrus und allen Städten der Heviter und Kanaaniter und zogen alsdann ins Mittagsland von Juda, gen Beerseba. 8 Also durchzogen sie das ganze Land und kamen nach neun Monaten und zwanzig Tagen gen Jerusalem. 9 Und Joab gab dem König die Zahl des gemusterten Volkes an. Und es waren in Israel achthunderttausend Kriegsleute, die das Schwert zogen, und in Juda fünfhunderttausend Mann.
10 Aber nachdem David das Volk hatte zählen lassen, schlug ihm das Herz. Und David sprach zum Herrn: Ich habe mich schwer versündigt mit dem, was ich getan! Nun aber, o Herr, vergib doch die Missetat deines Knechtes; denn ich habe sehr töricht gehandelt!
11 Und als David am Morgen aufstand, erging das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten Gad, den Seher Davids, also: 12 Gehe hin und sage zu David: So spricht der Herr: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor; erwähle dir deren eines, daß ich es dir antue! 13 Gad kam zu David, zeigte es ihm an und sprach: Willst du, daß sieben Jahre Hungersnot in dein Land komme, oder daß du drei Monate lang vor deinen Widersachern fliehen müssest und sie dich verfolgen, oder daß drei Tage lang Pestilenz in deinem Lande sei? So besinne dich nun und siehe, was ich dem antworten soll, der mich gesandt hat! 14 David sprach zu Gad: Mir ist sehr angst! Doch laß uns in die Hand des Herrn fallen, denn seine Barmherzigkeit ist groß; aber in der Menschen Hand will ich nicht fallen!
15 Da ließ der Herr Pestilenz in Israel kommen vom Morgen an bis zur bestimmten Zeit, daß von dem Volk, von Dan bis Beerseba, siebzigtausend Mann starben. 16 Als aber der Engel seine Hand über Jerusalem ausstreckte, um sie zu verderben, ließ sich der Herr des Übels gereuen, und er sprach zu dem Engel, dem Verderber unter dem Volke: Es ist genug! Laß nun deine Hand ab! Der Engel des Herrn aber war bei der Tenne Aravnas[b], des Jebusiters.
Davids Schuldbekenntnis und Brandopfer
17 Als David den Engel sah, der das Volk schlug, sprach er zum Herrn: Siehe, ich habe gesündigt, ich habe die Missetat begangen! Was haben aber diese Schafe getan? Laß doch deine Hand wider mich und wider meines Vaters Haus gerichtet sein! 18 Und Gad kam zu David an jenem Tage und sprach zu ihm: Gehe hinauf und errichte dem Herrn einen Altar in der Tenne Aravnas, des Jebusiters! 19 Also ging David hinauf, wie Gad gesagt und der Herr geboten hatte.
20 Und als Aravna aufblickte, sah er den König mit seinen Knechten zu ihm herüberkommen. Da ging Aravna hinaus und verneigte sich vor dem König mit dem Angesicht zur Erde; 21 und Aravna sprach: Warum kommt mein Herr und König zu seinem Knechte? David sprach: Die Tenne von dir zu kaufen, um dem Herrn einen Altar zu bauen, damit die Plage vom Volke abgewandt werde! 22 Aber Aravna sprach zu David: Mein Herr und König nehme sie und opfere, was ihn gut dünkt! Siehe, da ist ein Rind zum Brandopfer, die Dreschwagen aber und das Geschirr des Ochsen mögen als Brennholz dienen! 23 Alles dieses schenkt Aravna, o König, dem Könige! Und Aravna sprach zum König: Der Herr, dein Gott, sei dir gnädig!
24 Aber der König sprach zu Aravna: Nicht also, sondern ich will es dir abkaufen gemäß seinem Werte; denn ich will dem Herrn, meinem Gott, kein Brandopfer darbringen, das mich nichts kostet.
Also kaufte David die Tenne und die Rinder um fünfzig Schekel Silber. 25 Und David baute dem Herrn daselbst einen Altar und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer. Und der Herr ließ sich für das Land erbitten, und die Plage wurde von Israel abgewehrt.
