For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.(A) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.(B) They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.(C) But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship,(D) do the work of an evangelist,(E) discharge all the duties of your ministry.

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering,(F) and the time for my departure is near.(G) I have fought the good fight,(H) I have finished the race,(I) I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me(J) the crown of righteousness,(K) which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day(L)—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.(M)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
