Difficult Times Will Come

3 But realize this, that ^(A)in the last days difficult times will come. ² For people will be ^(B)lovers of self, ^(C)lovers of money, ^(D)boastful, ^(E)arrogant, ^(F)slanderers, ^(G)disobedient to parents, ^(H)ungrateful, ^(I)unholy, ^3 (J)unloving, irreconcilable, ^(K)malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, ^[a](L)haters of good, ^4 (M)treacherous, ^(N)reckless, ^(O)conceited, ^(P)lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ holding to a form of ^[b](Q)godliness although they have ^(R)denied its power; ^(S)avoid such people as these. ⁶ For among them are those who ^[c](T)slip into households and captivate ^[d](U)weak women weighed down with sins, led on by ^(V)various impulses, ⁷ always learning and never able to ^(W)come to the ^[e]knowledge of the truth.

¹⁸ Just as ^(A)You sent Me into the world, ^(B)I also sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for their sakes I ^(C)sanctify Myself, so that they themselves also may be ^(D)sanctified ^(E)in truth.

²⁰ “I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word, ²¹ that they may all be one; ^(F)just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, ^(G)so that the world may ^[a]believe that ^(H)You sent Me.

Disciples’ Future Glory

²² The ^(I)glory which You have given Me I also have given to them, so that they may be one, just as We are one; ^23 (J)I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected ^[b]in unity, so that the world may ^[c]know that ^(K)You sent Me, and You ^(L)loved them, just as You loved Me.

²⁷ Only conduct yourselves in a manner ^(A)worthy of the ^(B)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are ^(C)standing firm in ^(D)one spirit, with one ^[a]mind ^(E)striving together for the faith of the gospel; ²⁸ and in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a ^(F)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and this too, from God. ²⁹ For to you ^(G)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to ^(H)suffer on His behalf, ³⁰ experiencing the same ^(I)conflict which ^(J)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
