Dawudi Awangula Abaana ba Amoni
10 Mu kiseera ekyo kabaka w’abaana ba Amoni[a] n’afa, mutabani we Kamuni n’amusikira. 2 (A)Dawudi n’alowooza nga kyandibadde kirungi, okumukolera ebyekisa nga kitaawe bwe yali akoze. Awo Dawudi n’amutumira ekibinja okugenda okumukubagiza olw’okufa kwa kitaawe.
Abasajja ba Dawudi bwe baatuuka mu nsi ey’Abamoni, 3 abakungu ba Amoni ne bagamba Kamuni mukama waabwe nti, “Olowooza nga Dawudi okukuweereza ababaka okukubagiza, aba assaamu kitaawo kitiibwa? Olowooza nga Dawudi tabasindise okujja okulawuna n’okuketta ekibuga n’okukiwamba?” 4 (B)Awo Kamuni n’akwata abasajja ba Dawudi n’abamwako ekitundu ky’ebirevu byabwe n’abasalira ebyambalo byabwe wakati okukoma ku manyuma gaabwe, n’abagoba baddeyo ewaabwe.
5 Dawudi bwe yategeezebwa ebyo, n’atumira abasajja be ababaka, kubanga baali mu buswavu bungi, n’abagamba nti, “Musigale e Yeriko ebirevu byammwe bimale okukula mulyoke mukomewo.”
6 (C)Awo Abamoni bwe bategeera nga Dawudi bamufuukidde ekyenyinyalwa, ne bapangisa abaserikale ab’ebigere Abasuuli emitwalo ebiri okuva e Besukekobu n’e Zoba, n’abalala abasajja lukumi okuva ewa kabaka w’e Maaka, n’abalala omutwalo gumu mu enkumi bbiri okuva e Tobu.
7 Dawudi olwawulira ebyo, n’asindika Yowaabu n’eggye lyonna ery’abasajja abalwanyi abazira. 8 Abamoni ne bavaayo ne basimba ennyiriri awayingirirwa mu wankaaki w’ekibuga kyabwe, Abasuuli ab’e Zoba n’ab’e Lekobu, n’abasajja ab’e Tobu n’e Maaka bo ne babeera mu ttale.
9 Awo Yowaabu bwe yalaba ng’olutalo lumutaayizza mu maaso n’emabega, n’alondamu abasajja abazira mu Isirayiri, n’abasindika batabaale Abasuuli. 10 Abaasigalawo n’abakwasa Abisaayi muganda we okubaduumira, n’abasindika batabaale Abamoni. 11 Yowaabu n’agamba muganda we nti, “Bwe munaalaba Abasuuli nga batuyitiridde amaanyi, munajja ne mutubeera. Abamoni bwe banaabayinga amaanyi, tunajja ne tubabeera. 12 (D)Tuddemu amaanyi tulwane masajja olw’abantu baffe, n’olw’ebibuga bya Katonda waffe. Mukama akole nga bw’asiima.”
13 Awo Yowaabu n’abasajja abaali naye ne bambuka okutabaala Abasuuli, Abasuuli ne babadduka. 14 Abamoni bwe baalaba nga Abasuuli badduse, nabo ne badduka Abisaayi, ne bayingira mu kibuga. Yowaabu n’alekeraawo okulwana n’Abamoni, n’addayo e Yerusaalemi.
15 Awo Abasuuli bwe baalaba nga bawanguddwa Isirayiri, ne beekuŋŋaanya. 16 Kadadezeri n’atumya Abasuuli okuva emitala w’Omugga Fulaati, ne bagenda e Keramu nga bakulembeddwamu Sobaki omuduumizi w’eggye lya Kadadezeri.
17 Awo Dawudi bwe yakiwulira, n’akuŋŋaanya Isirayiri yenna n’asomoka Yoludaani n’agenda e Keramu. Abasuuli ne basimba ennyiriri okwolekera Dawudi balwane naye. 18 Naye ne badduka mu maaso ga Isirayiri, Dawudi n’atta abasajja lusanvu ku bavuzi b’amagaali g’embalaasi, era n’emitwalo ena ku beebagala embalaasi, n’afumita ne Sobaki omuduumizi w’eggye lyabwe n’afiirawo. 19 (E)Awo bakabaka bonna abaali abaddu ba Kadadezeri bwe baalaba nga bawanguddwa Isirayiri, ne beeweerayo ddala eri Abayisirayiri, era ne babawanga n’obusuulu.
Awo Abasuuli ne batya okuddamu okuyamba Abamoni.

David Defeats the Ammonites(A)
10 In the course of time, the king of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun succeeded him as king. 2 David thought, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash,(B) just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father.
When David’s men came to the land of the Ammonites, 3 the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Hasn’t David sent them to you only to explore the city and spy it out(C) and overthrow it?” 4 So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard,(D) cut off their garments at the buttocks,(E) and sent them away.
5 When David was told about this, he sent messengers to meet the men, for they were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho till your beards have grown, and then come back.”
6 When the Ammonites realized that they had become obnoxious(F) to David, they hired twenty thousand Aramean(G) foot soldiers from Beth Rehob(H) and Zobah,(I) as well as the king of Maakah(J) with a thousand men, and also twelve thousand men from Tob.(K)
7 On hearing this, David sent Joab(L) out with the entire army of fighting men. 8 The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation at the entrance of their city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maakah were by themselves in the open country.
9 Joab saw that there were battle lines in front of him and behind him; so he selected some of the best troops in Israel and deployed them against the Arameans. 10 He put the rest of the men under the command of Abishai(M) his brother and deployed them against the Ammonites. 11 Joab said, “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to come to my rescue; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you. 12 Be strong,(N) and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.”(O)
13 Then Joab and the troops with him advanced to fight the Arameans, and they fled before him. 14 When the Ammonites(P) realized that the Arameans were fleeing, they fled before Abishai and went inside the city. So Joab returned from fighting the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.
15 After the Arameans saw that they had been routed by Israel, they regrouped. 16 Hadadezer had Arameans brought from beyond the Euphrates River; they went to Helam, with Shobak the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
17 When David was told of this, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan and went to Helam. The Arameans formed their battle lines to meet David and fought against him. 18 But they fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred of their charioteers and forty thousand of their foot soldiers.[a] He also struck down Shobak the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 When all the kings who were vassals of Hadadezer saw that they had been routed by Israel, they made peace with the Israelites and became subject(Q) to them.
So the Arameans(R) were afraid to help the Ammonites anymore.
