2 Samuel 8:13-18

New International Version

¹³ And David became famous^(A) after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites^[a] in the Valley of Salt.^(B)

¹⁴ He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites^(C) became subject to David.^(D) The Lord gave David victory^(E) wherever he went.^(F)

¹⁵ David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right^(H) for all his people. ¹⁶ Joab^(I) son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat^(J) son of Ahilud was recorder;^{(K) 17} Zadok^(L) son of Ahitub and Ahimelek son of Abiathar^(M) were priests; Seraiah was secretary;^{(N) 18} Benaiah^(O) son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites^(P) and Pelethites; and David’s sons were priests.^[b]
