When (A)the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David [a]killed 22,000 Arameans. Then David put garrisons among the Arameans of Damascus, and (B)the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And (C)the Lord helped David wherever he went. David took the shields of gold which were [b]carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

When the Arameans of Damascus(A) came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them. He put garrisons(B) in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject(C) to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.(D)

David took the gold shields(E) that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
