5 When (A)the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David [a]killed 22,000 Arameans. 6 Then David put garrisons among the Arameans of Damascus, and (B)the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And (C)the Lord helped David wherever he went. 7 David took the shields of gold which were [b]carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

5 When the Arameans of Damascus(A) came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them. 6 He put garrisons(B) in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject(C) to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.(D)
7 David took the gold shields(E) that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
