5 And when [a]the Syrians of Damascus came to succor Hadadezer king of Zobah, David smote of [b]the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. 6 Then David put garrisons in [c]Syria of Damascus; and [d]the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. And Jehovah [e]gave victory to David whithersoever he went. 7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

New International Version
5 When the Arameans of Damascus(A) came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them. 6 He put garrisons(B) in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject(C) to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.(D)
7 David took the gold shields(E) that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
