⁴But in the same night, the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying, ⁵“Go and say to My servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: “^(A)Should you build Me a house for My dwelling? ⁶For ^(B)I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt, even to this day; rather, I have been moving about ^(C)in a tent, that is, in a dwelling place. ⁷^(D)Wherever I have gone with all the sons of Israel, did I speak a word with one of the tribes of Israel, ^(E)whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’

⁵“Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you^(A) the one to build me a house to dwell in?^(B) ⁶I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day.^(C) I have been moving from place to place with a tent^(D) as my dwelling.^(E) ⁷Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites,^(F) did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd^(G) my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house^(H) of cedar?^(I)”’

⁴And it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came unto Nathan, saying,

⁵Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the Lord, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

⁶Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

⁷In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
