23 Your majesty, Araunah gives all of this[a] to the king.” Araunah also told the king, “May the Lord your God be pleased with you!”

24 “No!” the king replied to Araunah. “I will buy them from you at full[b] price. I won’t offer to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 50 silver shekels,[c] 25 built[d] an altar to the Lord there, and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord answered David’s prayers for the land[e] and the pestilence on Israel was averted.

24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”(B)

So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels[b](C) of silver for them. 25 David built an altar(D) to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord answered his prayer(E) in behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped.
