⁸ Then the king arose and took his ^(A)seat in the gate. And the people were all told, “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” And all the people came before the king.

Now Israel had ^(B)fled every man to his own home.

The Rebellion of Sheba

20 Now there happened to be there ^(A)a worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said,

²² Then the woman went to all the people ^(A)in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it out to Joab. So he blew the trumpet, and they dispersed from the city, ^(B)every man to his home. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

¹⁰ So the Philistines fought, ^(A)and Israel was defeated, ^(B)and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell.

²¹ Then Joram^[a] passed over to Zair with all his chariots and rose by night, and he and his chariot commanders struck the Edomites who had surrounded him, but his army ^(A)fled home.
