43 But the men from Israel answered the men from Judah: “We[a] represent ten of the tribes[b] of Israel! So we[c] have more right to David than you[d] do! Why haven’t you[e] taken us[f] seriously? Weren’t we[g] the first to talk about bringing back our[h] king?” But what the people of Judah had to say was harsher than what the people of Israel were saying.

43 Then the men of Israel(A) answered the men of Judah, “We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?”
But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.
