2 Samuel 10:15-19
New American Standard Bible
15 When the Arameans saw that they had been [a]defeated by Israel, they assembled together. 16 (A)And Hadadezer sent word and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the Euphrates River, and they came to Helam; and (B)Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer [b]led them. 17 Now when it was reported to David, he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans lined up against David and fought him. 18 But the Arameans fled from Israel, and David killed (C)seven hundred charioteers of the Arameans and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 When all the kings, servants of Hadadezer, saw that they had been [c]defeated by Israel, (D)they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the sons of Ammon anymore.

New International Version
15 After the Arameans saw that they had been routed by Israel, they regrouped. 16 Hadadezer had Arameans brought from beyond the Euphrates River; they went to Helam, with Shobak the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
17 When David was told of this, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan and went to Helam. The Arameans formed their battle lines to meet David and fought against him. 18 But they fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred of their charioteers and forty thousand of their foot soldiers.[a] He also struck down Shobak the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 When all the kings who were vassals of Hadadezer saw that they had been routed by Israel, they made peace with the Israelites and became subject(A) to them.
So the Arameans(B) were afraid to help the Ammonites anymore.
