²⁴ But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels^[a] of silver.

²⁴ But King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will buy them for the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” ²⁵ So David paid Ornan ^(A)600 shekels^[a] of gold by weight for the site.

¹² But you profane it when you say that ^(A)the Lord's table is polluted, and its fruit, that is, its food may be despised. ¹³ But you say, ^(B)‘What a weariness this is,’ and you snort at it, says the Lord of hosts. ^(C)You bring what has been taken by violence or is lame or sick, and this you bring as your offering! Shall I accept that from your hand? says the Lord. ¹⁴ Cursed be the cheat who has ^(D)a male in his flock, and ^(E)vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For ^(F)I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and my name ^(G)will be feared among the nations.

¹³ And he said to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, “But if you will, hear me: I give the price of the field. Accept it from me, that I may bury my dead there.”
