David’s Further Conquests(A)
8 After this it came to pass that David [a]attacked the Philistines and subdued them. And David took [b]Metheg Ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
2 Then (B)he defeated Moab. Forcing them down to the ground, he measured them off with a line. With two lines he measured off those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David’s (C)servants, and (D)brought tribute.

David’s Victories(A)
8 In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines(B) and subdued(C) them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the control of the Philistines.
2 David also defeated the Moabites.(D) He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.(E)
2 Samuel 5:18-25
New King James Version
18 The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in (A)the Valley of Rephaim. 19 So David (B)inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”
And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
20 So David went to (C)Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place [a]Baal Perazim. 21 And they left their [b]images there, and David and his men (D)carried them away.
22 (E)Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 Therefore (F)David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 24 And it shall be, when you (G)hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then (H)the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 25 And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from (I)Geba[c] as far as (J)Gezer.

New International Version
18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;(A) 19 so David inquired(B) of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.[a](C) 21 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.(D)
22 Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; 23 so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. 24 As soon as you hear the sound(E) of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front(F) of you to strike the Philistine army.” 25 So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines(G) all the way from Gibeon[b](H) to Gezer.(I)
