2 Peter 3:3-13

3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, (A)walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of (B)creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that (C)by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth (D)standing out of water and in the water, 6 (E)by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But (F)the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for (G)fire until the day of judgment and [a]perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and (H)a thousand years as one day. 9 (I)The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but (J)is longsuffering toward [b]us, (K)not willing that any should perish but (L)that all should come to repentance.
The Day of the Lord
10 But (M)the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which (N)the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [c]burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be (O)in holy conduct and godliness, 12 (P)looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will (Q)be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will (R)melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for (S)new heavens and a (T)new earth in which righteousness dwells.

For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth (E)was formed out of water and through water (F)by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed (G)was deluged with water and (H)perished. 7 But by the same word (I)the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and (J)destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and (K)a thousand years as one day. 9 (L)The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise (M)as some count slowness, but (N)is patient toward you,[a] (O)not wishing that any should perish, but (P)that all should reach repentance. 10 But (Q)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then (R)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and (S)the heavenly bodies[b] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[c]
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, (T)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 (U)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and (V)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for (W)new heavens and a new earth (X)in which righteousness dwells.

The Coming Day of the Lord

For ever since the fathers [a](G)fell asleep, all things continue just as they were (H)from the beginning of creation.” 5 For [b]when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that (I)by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was (J)formed out of water and by water, 6 through which (K)the world at that time was (L)destroyed by being flooded with water. 7 But by His word (M)the present heavens and earth are being reserved for (N)fire, kept for (O)the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

A New Heaven and Earth
10 But (U)the day of the Lord (V)will come like a thief, in which (W)the heavens (X)will pass away with a roar and the (Y)elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and (Z)the earth and [c]its works will be [d]discovered.
11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 (AA)looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which (AB)the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the (AC)elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His (AD)promise we are looking for (AE)new heavens and a new earth, (AF)in which righteousness dwells.
