⁴ Then the city wall was broken through,^(A) and the whole army fled at night through the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden, though the Babylonians^[a] were surrounding^(B) the city. They fled toward the Arabah,^[b]

²⁸ Therefore this is what the Lord says: I am about to give this city into the hands of the Babylonians and to Nebuchadnezzar^(A) king of Babylon, who will capture it.^{(B) 29} The Babylonians who are attacking this city will come in and set it on fire; they will burn it down,^(C) along with the houses^(D) where the people aroused my anger by burning incense on the roofs to Baal and by pouring out drink offerings^(E) to other gods.^(F)

¹¹ But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded^(A) this land, we said, ‘Come, we must go to Jerusalem^(B) to escape the Babylonian^[a] and Aramean armies.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”
