The Lord commanded this to happen to the people of Judah. He did it to remove them from his presence. This was because of all the sins Manasseh had done. He had killed many innocent people. He had filled Jerusalem with their blood. And the Lord would not forgive these sins.

The other things that happened while Jehoiakim was king and all he did are written down. They are in the book of the history of the kings of Judah.

Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command,(A) in order to remove them from his presence(B) because of the sins of Manasseh(C) and all he had done, including the shedding of innocent blood.(D) For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive.(E)

As for the other events of Jehoiakim’s reign,(F) and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
