2 Kings 17:6-8
Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition
6 In the ninth year of Hoshe′a the king of Assyria captured Samar′ia, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7 And this was so, because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods 8 and walked in the customs of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs which the kings of Israel had introduced.[a]

New International Version

Israel Exiled Because of Sin
7 All this took place because the Israelites had sinned(E) against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt(F) from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods 8 and followed the practices of the nations(G) the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.
