Israel Exiled to Assyria

In the ninth year of Hoshea, (A)the king of Assyria captured Samaria and (B)took Israel away into exile to Assyria, and (C)settled them in Halah and Habor, on the river of (D)Gozan, and (E)in the cities of the Medes.

Israel Rejects Yahweh

Now (F)this happened because the sons of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God—(G)who had brought them up from the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt—(H)and they had [a]feared other gods and (I)walked in the statutes of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed from before the sons of Israel, and in the statutes (J)of the kings of Israel which they had made.

In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria(A) captured Samaria(B) and deported(C) the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan(D) on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes.

Israel Exiled Because of Sin

All this took place because the Israelites had sinned(E) against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt(F) from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods and followed the practices of the nations(G) the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.
