⁶ But the sons of those who struck him down he did not put to death, according to what is written in the book of the Law of Moses, which Yahweh commanded, saying, “^(A)Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor sons be put to death for their fathers; but ^(B)each shall be put to death for his own sin.”

¹⁸ But to ^(A)the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of Yahweh thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Regarding the words which you have heard, ^19 (B)because your heart was soft and ^(C)you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become ^(D)an object of horror, and a ^(E)curse, and you have ^(F)torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares Yahweh. ²⁰ “Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and ^(G)you will be gathered to your grave in peace, so your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.

⁴ Behold, ^(A)all ^[a]souls are Mine; the ^[b]soul of the father as well as the ^[c]soul of the son is Mine. The ^[d]soul who ^(B)sins will die.
