So they [a]resolved to make a proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israel at Jerusalem, since they had not done it for a long time in the prescribed manner.

Then the (A)runners went throughout all Israel and Judah with the letters from the king and his leaders, and spoke according to the command of the king: “Children of Israel, (B)return to the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel; then He will return to the remnant of you who have escaped from the hand of (C)the kings of (D)Assyria. And do not be (E)like your fathers and your brethren, who trespassed against the Lord God of their fathers, so that He (F)gave them up to (G)desolation, as you see. Now do not be (H)stiff-necked,[b] as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord; and enter His sanctuary, which He has sanctified forever, and serve the Lord your God, (I)that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you. For if you return to the Lord, your brethren and your children will be treated with (J)compassion by those who lead them captive, so that they may come back to this land; for the Lord your God is (K)gracious and merciful, and will not turn His face from you if you (L)return to Him.”

10 So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but (M)they laughed at them and mocked them. 11 Nevertheless (N)some from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.

They decided to send a proclamation throughout Israel, from Beersheba to Dan,(A) calling the people to come to Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel. It had not been celebrated in large numbers according to what was written.

At the king’s command, couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the king and from his officials, which read:

“People of Israel, return to the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, that he may return to you who are left, who have escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria. Do not be like your parents(B) and your fellow Israelites, who were unfaithful(C) to the Lord, the God of their ancestors, so that he made them an object of horror,(D) as you see. Do not be stiff-necked,(E) as your ancestors were; submit to the Lord. Come to his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever. Serve the Lord your God, so that his fierce anger(F) will turn away from you. If you return(G) to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion(H) by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate.(I) He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

10 The couriers went from town to town in Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun, but people scorned and ridiculed(J) them. 11 Nevertheless, some from Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun humbled(K) themselves and went to Jerusalem.(L)
