The Joy of Titus

13 Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit (A)has been refreshed by you all. 14 For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true. 15 And his affections are greater for you as he remembers (B)the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him. 16 Therefore I rejoice that (C)I have confidence in you in everything.

Excel in Giving

Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and (D)their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, imploring us with much urgency [a]that we would receive the gift and (E)the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. And not only as we had hoped, but they first (F)gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the (G)will of God. So (H)we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well. But as (I)you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see (J)that you abound in this grace also.

  1. 2 Corinthians 8:4 NU, M omit that we would receive, thus changing text to urgency for the favor and fellowship

13 Because of this, we have been (A)comforted.

And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of (B)Titus, because his (C)spirit has been refreshed by you all. 14 For if I have (D)boasted to him about you regarding anything, I was not put to shame. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting before (E)Titus proved to be the truth. 15 His [a]affection abounds all the more toward you, as he remembers the (F)obedience of you all, how you received him with (G)fear and trembling. 16 I rejoice that in everything (H)I have confidence in you.

Great Generosity

Now, brothers and sisters, we make known to you the grace of God which has been (I)given in the churches of (J)Macedonia, that in a [b]great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the (K)wealth of their liberality. For I testify that (L)according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave voluntarily, begging us with much urging for the (M)favor [c]of participation in the [d](N)support of the [e]saints, and this, not as we had [f]expected, but they first (O)gave themselves to the Lord and to us by (P)the will of God. So we (Q)urged (R)Titus that as he had previously (S)made a beginning, so he would also complete in you (T)this gracious work as well.

But just as you (U)excel (V)in everything, in faith, speaking, knowledge, and in all earnestness and in the [g]love we inspired in you, see that you also (W)excel in this gracious work.
