11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you.(A) 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children(B)—open wide your hearts(C) also.

Warning Against Idolatry

14 Do not be yoked together(D) with unbelievers.(E) For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?(F) 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[a]?(G) Or what does a believer(H) have in common with an unbeliever?(I) 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?(J) For we are the temple(K) of the living God.(L) As God has said:

“I will live with them
    and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
    and they will be my people.”[b](M)

17 Therefore,

“Come out from them(N)
    and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
    and I will receive you.”[c](O)

18 And,

“I will be a Father to you,
    and you will be my sons and daughters,(P)
says the Lord Almighty.”[d](Q)

11 (A)Our mouth [a]has spoken freely to you, you Corinthians, our (B)heart is opened wide. 12 You are not restrained [b]by us, but (C)you are restrained in your own [c]affections. 13 Now in the same way in (D)exchange—I am speaking as to (E)children—open wide your hearts to us, you as well.

14 (F)Do not be [d]mismatched with (G)unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness (H)share together, or what does light have in common with darkness? 15 Or what (I)harmony does Christ have with [e]Belial, or [f]what does a (J)believer share with an (K)unbeliever? 16 Or (L)what agreement does [g]the temple of God have with idols? For we are [h](M)the temple of (N)the living God; just as God said,

(O)I will (P)dwell among them and (Q)walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 (R)Therefore, (S)come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord.
And do not touch what is unclean;
And I will welcome you.
18 (T)And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be (U)sons and daughters to Me,”
Says the Lord Almighty.

Therefore, since we have these promises,(A) dear friends,(B) let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness(C) out of reverence for God.

Paul’s Joy Over the Church’s Repentance

Make room for us in your hearts.(D) We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one. I do not say this to condemn you; I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts(E) that we would live or die with you. I have spoken to you with great frankness; I take great pride in you.(F) I am greatly encouraged;(G) in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.(H)

For when we came into Macedonia,(I) we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn(J)—conflicts on the outside, fears within.(K)

Paul Reveals His Heart

Therefore, having these promises, (A)beloved, (B)let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

(C)Make room for us in your hearts; we have wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one. I do not speak to condemn you, for I have said (D)before that you are (E)in our hearts, to die together and to live together. My (F)confidence [a]in you is great; my (G)boasting in your behalf is great. I am filled with (H)comfort; I am overflowing with (I)joy in all our affliction.

For even when we came into (J)Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were (K)afflicted on every side: (L)conflicts on the outside, fears inside.
