¹² We are not ^(A)again commending ourselves to you but are giving you an ^(B)opportunity to boast of us, so that you will have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart.

¹² For we do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with ^[a]some of those who ^(A)commend themselves, but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.

¹⁸ For it is not the one who ^(A)commends himself that is approved, but the one ^(B)whom the Lord commends.

Concern for the Corinthian Church

¹¹ I have become ^(A)foolish; you yourselves compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you, for ^(B)in no respect was I inferior to the ^[a]most-eminent apostles, even if ^(C)I am nothing.
