But we have renounced (A)disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice[a] cunning or (B)to tamper with God's word, but (C)by the open statement of the truth (D)we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. And even (E)if our gospel is veiled, (F)it is veiled to (G)those who are perishing. In their case (H)the god of this world (I)has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing (J)the light of (K)the gospel of the glory of Christ, (L)who is the image of God. For what (M)we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with (N)ourselves as your servants[b] for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, (O)“Let light shine out of darkness,” (P)has shone in our hearts to give (Q)the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Treasure in Jars of Clay

But we have this treasure in (R)jars of clay, (S)to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are (T)afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but (U)not forsaken; (V)struck down, but not destroyed; 10 (W)always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, (X)so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So (Y)death is at work in us, but life in you.

13 Since we have (Z)the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, (AA)“I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, 14 knowing that (AB)he who raised the Lord Jesus (AC)will raise us also with Jesus and (AD)bring us with you into his presence. 15 For (AE)it is all for your sake, so that as (AF)grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, (AG)to the glory of God.

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways;(A) we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God.(B) On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience(C) in the sight of God. And even if our gospel(D) is veiled,(E) it is veiled to those who are perishing.(F) The god(G) of this age(H) has blinded(I) the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ,(J) who is the image of God.(K) For what we preach is not ourselves,(L) but Jesus Christ as Lord,(M) and ourselves as your servants(N) for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a](O) made his light shine in our hearts(P) to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.(Q)

But we have this treasure in jars of clay(R) to show that this all-surpassing power is from God(S) and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side,(T) but not crushed; perplexed,(U) but not in despair; persecuted,(V) but not abandoned;(W) struck down, but not destroyed.(X) 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,(Y) so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.(Z) 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake,(AA) so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.(AB)

13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.”[b](AC) Since we have that same spirit of[c] faith,(AD) we also believe and therefore speak, 14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead(AE) will also raise us with Jesus(AF) and present us with you to himself.(AG) 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving(AH) to overflow to the glory of God.
