8 So Solomon and all Israel with him—a very great assembly, from the entrance to Hamath[a] to the Brook of Egypt—observed the festival at that time for seven days. 9 On the eighth day[b] they held a sacred assembly,(A) for the dedication of the altar lasted seven days and the festival seven days. 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, rejoicing and with happy hearts for the goodness the Lord had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.
11 So Solomon finished the Lord’s temple and the royal palace. Everything that had entered Solomon’s heart to do for the Lord’s temple and for his own palace succeeded.(B)
The Lord’s Response
12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him:
I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a temple of sacrifice.(C) 13 If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the grasshopper to consume the land, or if I send pestilence on My people,(D) 14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.(E) 15 My eyes will now be open and My ears attentive to prayer from this place.(F) 16 And I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My name may be there forever; My eyes and My heart will be there at all times.(G)
17 As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances, 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man ruling in Israel.(H)
19 However, if you turn away and abandon My statutes and My commands that I have set before you and if you go and serve other gods and worship them,(I) 20 then I will uproot Israel from the soil that I gave them, and this temple that I have sanctified for My name I will banish from My presence;(J) I will make it an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.(K) 21 As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say:(L) Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple? 22 Then they will say: Because they abandoned the Lord God of their ancestors who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They clung to other gods and worshiped and served them. Because of this, He brought all this ruin on them.

8 So Solomon observed the festival(A) at that time for seven days, and all Israel(B) with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath(C) to the Wadi of Egypt.(D) 9 On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated(E) the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival(F) for seven days more. 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
The Lord Appears to Solomon(G)
11 When Solomon had finished(H) the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the Lord and in his own palace, 12 the Lord appeared(I) to him at night and said:
“I have heard your prayer and have chosen(J) this place for myself(K) as a temple for sacrifices.
13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain,(L) or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name,(M) will humble(N) themselves and pray and seek my face(O) and turn(P) from their wicked ways, then I will hear(Q) from heaven, and I will forgive(R) their sin and will heal(S) their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.(T) 16 I have chosen(U) and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
17 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully(V) as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees(W) and laws, 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted(X) with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor(Y) to rule over Israel.’(Z)
19 “But if you[a] turn away(AA) and forsake(AB) the decrees and commands I have given you[b] and go off to serve other gods and worship them, 20 then I will uproot(AC) Israel from my land,(AD) which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule(AE) among all peoples. 21 This temple will become a heap of rubble. All[c] who pass by will be appalled(AF) and say,(AG) ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ 22 People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them(AH)—that is why he brought all this disaster on them.’”

9 And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.
10 And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the Lord had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
